€30m contract for St Patrick's College, Drumcondra gets green light
Building work is set to start on a new €30 million building project at St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin, after the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan, recently approved the contract for the project

The new 12,000sq/m facility, which includes new lecture theatres, libraries and offices, in addition to the refurbishment of 6,000sq/m of existing space, is expected to be finished in 2012. The project was designed by award-winning architects RMJM (Scotland) in partnership with Taylor Architects of Castlebar, Co Mayo.

While in Drumcondra, the Tánaiste also announced the go-ahead of a major capital project at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). Work on a €5 million National Film School at the Dun Laoghaire IADT will begin this week. The new 1,315sq/m film school will accommodate 385 students, with courses in film, television and radio brought together in one building. In addition to these two major contracts, funding has also been approved for health and safety works at St Angela's College, Sligo, and the Church of Ireland College of Education, Rathmines, Dublin.
